Maybe not for all developers but extensions have always been super helpful for me! Before embarking on this journey I had no idea what extensions even were, I just knew Chrome was the best browser to use across the board (don’t debate me). One of the things that always stuck out to me when I started Flatiron was the mention that as you become a developer, your brain just starts thinking differently. You start questioning everyday things in a technical way. The other thing is that developers are lazy & over 6 months later of learning code, I get it! Here’s the list of extensions I’ve discovered for the curious & also lazy side of developer brains.

WhatRuns:

Ever wonder what’s running a website? The programming lang, framework, Plugins, Fonts? WhatRuns got you covered.

Web Developer:

Get a toolbar button with handy web dev tools.

Daily .dev:

daily.dev is the easiest way to stay updated on the latest programming news. In other words, no more wasting time searching for high-quality articles. Install daily.dev, open a new tab, and you’re all set.

Window Resizer:

This extension re-sizes the browser’s window in order to emulate various resolutions. It is particularly useful for web designers and developers by helping them test their layouts on different browser resolutions.

BrowserStack:

Instantly test your webpage on any desktop or mobile browser.
Launch a new test session in any browser using the BrowserStack Quick Launch Extension. Set up to 12 browsers for quick access and minimize the time spent in switching browsers. Review changes immediately and make cross-browser testing an integral part of development.

Workona:

If you’re usually drowning in millions of open tabs try this extension! Workona helps you get your work under control and finally feel organized. Use it to manage tabs, organize projects, and bring together all of your work in the browser.

OVC — One Video Control:

If you only have one screen, coding along to videos can be challenging, OVC fixes that! It exposes new ways to interact with videos:
A “popout” button to extract the video from the browser and play it as a “stand alone”, also known as ‘picture in picture’

Lunar Reader - Dark Theme & Night Shift Mode:

I think all developers long Dark Mode but I can only speak for myself, I live on the dark side. Dark theme and night shift mode for every website. Care your eyes, use Lunar Dark Reader for night and daily web browsing.
Lunar Dark Reader extension will put dark theme on all websites, suitable for those work at night and dark reader for online news or book reading.

That’s the list of my favorite extensions that I’ve been using. As we all become more seasoned developers I’m sure these extensions will come in super helpful. Hope this blog was helpful !
